Where Do Downloaded Videos Go on Android, iPhone and Windows?

The most common message we get is not about a failed download. It is “I downloaded it, but where is it?” Browsers save files in different places depending on the device. Here is where to look.

Android (Chrome, Samsung Internet, Opera)

Files go to the Download folder in your phone’s internal storage.

  • Open the Files app (or My Files on Samsung) and tap Downloads.
  • In Chrome, tap the three dots › Downloads to see the list.
  • Most gallery apps show the video under a Download album within a few seconds. If yours does not, restart the gallery app; it rescans new files on launch.

Samsung Internet sometimes asks every time where to save. You can change that in Settings › Downloads.

iPhone and iPad (Safari)

Safari does not put videos straight into Photos.

  1. After the download finishes, tap the blue arrow in the address bar, then the file.
  2. Or open the Files app › On My iPhone › Downloads.
  3. Open the video, tap Share, then Save Video. Now it is in Photos.

If Safari opens the video in a player instead of downloading, press and hold the download button and choose Download Linked File.

Windows and Mac

Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all use the Downloads folder in your user folder by default. Press Ctrl + J (Windows) or Cmd + Option + L (Mac) to open the browser’s download list and click Show in folder.

If a downloaded TikTok will not play on Windows, it is probably H.265. Install the free HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store, or open it in VLC.

Downloads that never finish

  • Large files on mobile data: some phones pause downloads when the screen locks. Keep the page open until it finishes.
  • Battery saver mode can stop background downloads. Turn it off for a moment.
  • Expired link: download links on our site last 10 minutes. If you come back later, paste the video link again.

File names

Files from our site are named like vidmate-tiktok-username-1234567890-hd.mp4, so you can search your Downloads folder for “vidmate” to find them all.

Open the VidMate web downloader →

Install VidMate

VidMate is installed. Open it from your home screen or app list.

  1. iPhone / iPad: in Safari tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
  2. Android: in Chrome open the ⋮ menu and tap Install app (or Add to Home screen).
  3. Windows / Mac: in Chrome or Edge click the install icon at the right end of the address bar.
